Hi there.

I’m Tom, here’s a bit about me

I am currently Software Architect at Learning.com where I'm proud to work on products that teach digital skills to the next generation. I've previously worked as a software engineer at IBM and CorVel Corporation. For more about my professional experience, check out my resume.
I obtained my Masters degree in Software Engineering from Portland State University in 2013 and my Bachelors degree in Economics from Portland State in 2004.
I love getting outdoors whenever I can for hunting, fishing, backpacking, or just a hike. I've recently gotten more serious about rock climbing and after a lot of practice in the gym, I'm looking forward to doing that outside more. I also enjoy music, both listening and making. I play guitar, and can fake it pretty well on drums and bass. I like getting together with friends in my basement to play music, sometimes record it, and every once in a while play out in public.
I was born in and mostly grew up in Bozeman, Montana with a few stints in Idaho and Indiana. Most of my family still lives in Montana and I try to get back there at least once a year. I've lived in Portland, Oregon since 2001, and currently live in the Cully neighborhood in NE Portland with my wife, our cat, two chickens, and a beehive. I've done a fair amount of traveling as well. I worked and lived in Taiwan for a year teaching English in 2000 and my wife and I took a 3 month sebatical in 2014 where we traveled in Europe and North Africa. I have an old blog documenting our travels you can check out.
